do you ever feel like you like someone a lotmore than they like you and then start to feel like you’re just annoying them because while you always want to talk to them they probably don’t always want to talk to you and it stresses you out a lot and then you just start to feel really depressed about it
Child and adolescent characters are, I find, one of the areas where fandom tends to disagree most harshly. While adults are easy to relate to, children are “foreign”. One of the fallacies of memory is that we can accurately recall our childhood. Memory is actually very elastic and easily (unintentionally) altered. Especially when recalling childhood, we’re most likely to impose our current beliefs and behavior on past memories. This is why people are apt to say, “I was never that bad when I was their age”, etc.
So when people are trying to compare their own past to, say, the children of ASOIAF, they’re rarely going to be accurate. Even if they can recall how they were as a child, however, they often judge child characters using adult standards (whether they realize this or not). This is the fallacy that children have the ability to think logically. Simple fact is, logic is one of the last parts of cognition to develop. Early adolescence, 11-13 for most children, is when children gain the ability to:
While children do sometimes develop pieces of these cognitive actions sooner than adolescence, it is neither consistent nor something they’re aware of. As frustrating as it is to adults, children often remain ignorant of “basic” concepts of reasoning and self-control. Young adolescents are more easily controlled by impulses and societal pressures, and often fail to connect actions with the appropriate consequences. This is not the fault of the adolescent, nor a sign of mental weakness, but simply a part of cognitive development.
When people compare the character of Sansa to any other female character (except maybe Jeyne Poole), they’re failing to understand the fact that she (unlike other characters) is a child-woman. Not a child, not a woman, but caught somewhere in between. Her brain is a fireworks show of neural reorganization, a mess of developing pathways and new experiences.
And that’s just her at the start of GoT. After Ned’s death, her character is twisted and pulled apart by the effects of trauma, abuse, and chronic stress, all leading to a very obvious case of adolescent PTSD.
All the above is just generalization, though. Let’s go over the particular points, bit by bit.

Do you prefer reading books or watching movies?
Oohh, that’s tough. It honestly depends. Overall? Probably movies. I like visuals. I like audio. I like seeing the emotions and picking out color schemes and little things in the sets and costuming. I like analyzing scenes down to every detail. I like visual parallels. But then there are some books that are better than most movies, and hook me so thoroughly that I don’t mind not having all the visuals before me to pick apart.
What was your favorite childhood cartoon?
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. I LOVED TOO MANY CARTOONS. except it was probably Batman: The Animated Series. BUT STILL. I grew up devouring cartoons. So while BtAS edges out the others by a little bit, here are my other loves (because I feel like embarrassing myself with my vast cartoon love life):
Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Rugrats, Doug, Tail Spin, Duck Tales, X-Men, Spider-Man, Reboot, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Tales from the Cryptkeeper, X-Men: Evolution, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Batman Beyond, Mummies Alive!, He-Man, She-Ra. There’s probably more but that’s all I can think of at the moment. XD
If you could rule one country, which country would you choose?
I wouldn’t settle for a country; I’d want the world.
How many fandoms are you in?
I can’t count that high. Well, actively, at the moment two/three.
Which is your dominant hand?
My right hand. Though I use my left hand a lot at work, and my left arm is steadier at picking up the trays, which I’ve always found odd.
What’s your favorite wild animal?
Wolves and dolphins.
What physical attributes are you attracted to in another person?
Hands, eyes, voice. Also height.
Did that last question make sense?
What is one of your greatest faults?
BUT THERE ARE SO MANY. Okay, here goes. This gets long. But I’m leaving it because this was about getting to know people, so…here you go. :P
Um, perhaps my inability to always know what is and what isn’t acceptable? I have horrible social skills. My first boyfriend broke up with me right during the time when my few actual friendships - that had always been problematic - were finally crumbling apart, right around the time I was thirteen and moving to somewhere completely new. I wound up becoming a hermit except when I absolutely had to go out (I was home-schooled - which is a wonderful thing for some people, but might not have been the best thing for me). My parents got me involved in a home-school group, which had classes and events and programs and dances, but I would get out of every single thing I possibly could. (I would literally try to make myself sick so I wouldn’t feel bad about lying/could convince my parents I wasn’t lying. Sometimes it worked.) So…even though I formed a couple of friendships during my teen years, it wasn’t really enough for me to get past my awkward, anti-social tendencies and my inability to trust most people. My other problem is though, once I trust someone and form a bond with them, I tend to become co-dependent. So to anyone here, if I ever seem clingy or needy or demanding or pushy or anything, just let me know. I’m generally not aware.
Also, I have this overwhelming need to be validated sometimes.
What is one thing you love about yourself?
Um…my toes? I have really nice, long toes.
Do you consider us to be friends?
Yes I do. :D
